ANON CRUSH MEME my post So, I went to see
Avatar today, braving the snow and the cold that made me stay in my bed with my laptop for the past two days. And it was fucking amazing! I mean, wow, it is obviously incredibly gorgeous. The scenery was so real and yet so magical, sometimes the forest looked like the aliens/jellyfishes in
The Abyss and sometimes it looked like nothing at all axcept a world where you just wanted to dive into. And the characters...DAMN. I'm really not someomes who enjoys motion-capture, especially when it comes to humans/humanoids,
The Polar Express was just creepy,
Beowulf was terrible looking - a bunch of corpses moving around with dead eyes. But this? Cameron and his team completely jumped over the uncanny valley, it looked so real! When we first saw Sigourney Weaver's Avatar, my mind was definitely blown. It was HER and yet it wasn't and...just wow. And the story was fine, a bit predictable of course and quite textbook but the emotional journey was dense enough to make us care and it was great to see the dumb jarhead become the leader of a revolution. Well done, there :D I'd put it on my Top 10 movies of 2009 but I realized that I didn't see much films at the cinema this year. But for the sake of it:
- Moon - Duncan Jones
- Inglourious Basterds - Quentin Tarantino
- The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - Terry Gilliam
- Avatar - James Cameron
- Star Trek - JJ Abrams
- District 9 - Neill Blomkamp
- Watchmen - Zach Snyder
...hm, either that's a very geeky list or 2009 was a very geeky year. Seriously, there were a lot of movies this year that were fantastic and dealt with fantasy (even Tarantino's movie) it's great to see that making movies like these aren't seen like a waste of time anymore. I mean, both
Moon and
District 9 are remarkable examples of sci-fi movies that are so much more than about sci-fi and yet still manage to be awesome geeky dreams. I'm confusing, aren't I? But I know what I mean. 2009 was a great year for cinema and there are a lot of movies I haven't seen yet such as
Up, Up in the Air, The Hurt Locker, 500 Days of Summer, The Road, A Single Man...and mainly because my local cinemas suck big balls and either won't play these movies or won't play them in English but dubbed and that's just rude. Oh, and I watched
Veronika Decides to Die yesterday (and the day before, I watched
Love Actually again. It's my obligatory Xmas movie!), it was great! I'd forgot how great Sarah Michelle Gellar can be, I loved how slow it was and yet so intense. Really good. I hope it'll be released.
I'd do the same with music but I did listen to a lot of CDs this year and it would be very long to see what the best was, so I'd just say that the
Manic Street Preachers' new album is my #1 because it got me back into their music.
Kasabian's second album is also one of the best this year, and that's why I'm seeing them in February, wheeee.
Them Crooked Vultures is a supergroup that I expected to be awesome and they definitely are, one of the best sound of this year.
BLUR FUCKING CAME BACK and it pleases my little heart.
Oasis split up but that's not as if they were ever together. The
Arctic Monkeys are finally men (and for a while, I had the same haircut as Alex Turner)and
Franz Ferdinand made me dance like crazy. Hm, let's see...
Grizzly Bear sent me to another planet while
Phoenix made me proud of being French. I feel a bit stupid because I just can't get why everyone loves
Animal Collective and I fucking saw
Morrissey in concert this year.
Fuck yeah, 2009! I think I'm gonna do like
last year, a little picspam or whatever. It was fun. Feel free to drop ideas of movies I should have watched, CDs I should have listened to and maybe why Animal Collective are so adored while all they do to me is making feel dizzy because of their weird album cover. And I didn't talk about tv because there's just too much and it doesn't seem as important to me.
